Ghost
Towns of Arizona, Remenants of Mining Days Some of the "ghost" towns selected for this booklet never actually died. Tombstone, Jerome, and Bisbee were mining centers that now thrive on tourism. Other mining areas such as those near Crown King in the Bradshaw Mountains and Congress north of Wickenburg are enjoying new mining cycles. But the majority of the formerly prosperous towns have been abandoned to the sun and weather without the protection of an historic district designation. Much ghost town history and lore was passed down by word of mouth, growing grander with each telling. Growing population estimates were exaggerated by town fathers to pain a rosy picture of would-be immigrants back east. This booklet contains information regarding 36 of Arizona's finest ghost towns: Bisbee, Charleston, Christmas, Cleator, Congress, Contention City, Courtland, Crown King, Dos Cabezas, Ehrenberg, Fairbank, Gleeson, Globe, Goldfield, Goldroad, Jerome, Map, Kofa, La Paz, McCabe, McMillen, Mineral Park, Mowry, Oatman, Octave, Oro Belle, Oro Blanco, Pearce, Quartzsite, Signal, Silver King, Stanton, Superior, Tombstone, Weaver, White Hills, and Wickenburg. Renaissance House Publishers, 1989, Booklet, 48 pages.
